Highlights From This Year's
 Annual Work/Life Conference

Hosted by Work Friendly and Corporate Champions for Children

Maximize the Competitive Advantage:  Winning Work/Life Strategies for Business was the theme for the all-day conference held on May 10th at the American Airlines Training & Conference Center.  Approximately 165 attendees from 81 organizations of all sizes and industries participated in this year’s event.

Donna Klein, Vice President of Diversity and Workplace Effectiveness for Marriott International in Washington, D.C., kicked off the conference as the keynote speaker.  A nationally known authority on work/life issues, Mrs. Klein expertly engaged the audience with a historical account of work/life initiatives over the past 150 years, as well as enlightened participants about where the work/life field is headed and why.  To view her keynote speech in its entirety, please click here.

Following the keynote address, 32 experts from dozens of local, blue-ribbon organizations -- Texas Instruments, Raytheon, Hewlett Packard, Deloitte & Touche, Ernst & Young, City of Fort Worth, American Airlines, U.S. Department of Labor-Women's Bureau, JPMorgan Chase, Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas, Bright Horizons Family Solutions, Texas Workforce Commission, Bank of America, Ceridian LifeWorks Services, University of North Texas, Senior Citizens of Greater Dallas, Haynes and Boone, Bell Helicopter, AmeriCredit, Kaleidoscope Partners; Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld; Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas, Kiddo’s Child Care – shared their work/life expertise with conference participants. Breakout sessions tackled such issues as strategic work/life management, building the business case, needs assessment, promoting health and wellness, why women leave the workforce, employee friendly policies and legislation, workplace flexibility, elder care at work, communication strategy, post 9/11 employment issues, developing synergies to affect change, paving new roads in child care, and how to develop grass-roots successes.  To download select presentations or to view session descriptions, click here.

In addition, during the luncheon, DallasChild & FortWorthChild announced the winning North Texas' Best Family Friendly companies:  Texas Instruments placed first in the large company category, Tricon (parent organization for Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, and KFC) in the medium-size group, and Wyndham Jade won in the small company category.  For more information on these winning companies and their family-friendly policies, click here

National speaker and humorist Joel Zeff energized the audience as the closing speaker.  Joel captivated the audience with his unique blend of hilarious improvisational comedy and essential ideas on work and life.  For information about Joel and his workshops, visit

Conference evaluations have been overwhelmingly positive, and the hosting coalitions attribute much of the conference success to the exceptional support provided by this year’s sponsors:  Texas Workforce Commission, WorkSource of Dallas County, Texas Instruments, Bright Horizons Family Solutions, ARAMARK Work/Life Partnerships, American Airlines, Work Advantage, Raytheon, Ceridian LifeWorks Services, and Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld.

Stay tuned for information about next year’s conference, which will be announced in the next few months.  To learn about our conference partner, Fort Worth-based Corporate Champions for Children, visit
