Highlights From This Year's
Annual Work/Life Conference

Hosted by Work Friendly and Corporate Champions for Children

Work/Life Strategies In A Changing Economy was the theme for the all-day conference held on May 9, 2003 at the American Airlines Training & Conference Center. Approximately 166 attendees from numerous organizations of all sizes and industries participated in this year's event!

Opening Speaker: Bernice Washington, Washington Enterprises, kicked off the conference with an inspiring presentation "Managing Your FBI (Family, Business, and Interests)". Bernice is a nationally recognized successful businesswoman with a solid background of 30 years in healthcare sales/marketing and management.

Keynote Speaker: Arlene Johnson, Vice President of WFD Consulting, Inc. was the luncheon keynote speaker. As Vice President of WFD Consulting, a firm that specializes in creating workplaces that support personal life while advancing business objectives, Mrs. Johnson's special areas of consulting expertise are work-life strategy, women's advancement, and techniques for flexible management. She has 20 years of experience of working with business organizations to identify and address workforce and workplace issues and assist in the development of strategies for effective change. Arlene has worked with dozens of US organizations- including IBM, Hewlett Package, Deloitte & Touche, and PriceWaterhouseCoopers, to name a few.

Closing Speaker: Bryan Dodge, President, Dodge Development, Inc. program, entitled "How to Build a Better You," closed the conference with an upbeat and energetic tone.

Breakout Sessions: 22 experts from dozens of local, blue-ribbon organizations -- Texas Instruments, Raytheon, Mary Kay, Inc., Menttium Corporation 100, JPMorgan Chase, AmeriCredit, Bright Horizons Family Solutions, ComPsych, Imprimis Group, Inc., AARP, The Senior Source, Senior Citizens of Greater Dallas, Thomson-DBM, Burlington Northern Santa Fe, Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld, Dart Manufacturing, Sunbelt Telecommunications, PartnerComm, Inc., Wellpower, Inc., City of Fort Worth, Texas Health Resources and Survey Research Center, UNT. - shared their work/life expertise with conference participants. Breakout sessions tackled such issues as mentoring, aligning work/Life with business strategies, strategic partnerships that meet the child care needs of a diverse workforce, measuring success: a return on investment model, effective strategies for an aging workforce, preparing for an increase in employee caregivers, flexible schedules, work/life solutions for today's economy, communication strategy, stressed for success, and needs assessments.

Awards Luncheon: During the luncheon, DallasChild & FortWorthChild (for the second year!) announced the winning North Texas' Best Family Friendly companies:
